Expanding LoRa APRS Coverage: New iGate/Digipeater 9W8LCL-10 Deployed in Prima Bintawa and Demak Area

We are excited to share some fantastic news for the Amateur Radio community utilizing the LoRa APRS network! A new LoRa APRS iGate and Digipeater node, operating under the callsign 9W8LCL-10, has been successfully deployed and is now active.

This new station is strategically located to significantly enhance coverage in the Prima Bintawa, Demak area, and surrounding regions. Its operation as both an iGate and a Digipeater provides dual benefits:

  • iGate Functionality: Packets received by 9W8LCL-10 from local LoRa APRS stations are forwarded to the internet-based APRS-IS (APRS Internet Service). This allows stations within its coverage to appear on online maps like aprs.fi, track their movements, and send messages to other APRS users worldwide.
  • Digipeater Functionality: The node also acts as a digipeater, receiving LoRa APRS packets and re-transmitting them locally. This extends the range for stations that might not have a direct line-of-sight to the iGate or other nodes, helping to build a more robust local network mesh.

The deployment of 9W8LCL-10 is a crucial step in strengthening the LoRa APRS infrastructure in this part of the region, filling potential coverage gaps and improving the reliability of packet reception for local operators.

This valuable contribution was made possible by the dedication and effort of 9W8LCL. We extend our sincere gratitude to him for establishing this node. His commitment directly benefits fellow amateur radio enthusiasts in the covered area, enabling more reliable and extensive use of LoRa APRS for tracking, messaging, and general awareness.

Join Us in Building the Network!
The successful deployment by 9W8LCL serves as a wonderful example of how individual contributions can collectively build a powerful and widespread network. Every new iGate or digipeater deployed, no matter how small its initial coverage area, adds significant value to the overall LoRa APRS system.

We strongly encourage other enthusiastic amateur radio operators to consider setting up their own LoRa APRS nodes. Building a node is a rewarding project that enhances your local radio landscape and directly supports the wider community. There are many resources available online to guide you through the process, from simple receive-only iGates to full iGate/Digipeater setups.

Thank you once again to 9W8LCL for his significant contribution. Let’s continue to work together to expand our LoRa APRS network and make it an even more valuable resource for all!
Stay tuned for more updates on network growth!
